ABOUT US
Engineering Solutions. Empowering Communities. Inspiring Leaders.
At Engineers Without Borders – University of Texas at San Antonio (EWB‑UTSA), we believe engineering is more than technical skill it’s a force for lasting, positive change. As a proud student chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA, we design and deliver sustainable, community‑driven projects that improve quality of life in underserved communities, both abroad and here at home.
Since our founding in 2008, we have united students from across disciplines civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, computer science, geology, finance, and more alongside professional mentors and a dedicated faculty advisor. Together, we combine technical expertise, cultural understanding, and a passion for service to create solutions that are functional, environmentally responsible, and built to last.
Our first international project, completed in 2018 in Viña Vieja, Peru, delivered a clean water distribution and storage system to 110 families, improving health and reducing the daily burden of water collection. Our most recently completed project, located in La Esperanza, Guatemala, involved designing and implementing a household tap water distribution system for over 200 residents, including 29 schoolchildren. This project, in partnership with the local municipality, provides reliable access to safe water and is projected for completion by the end of 2025.
Our newest international initiative is underway in Biagnimi, Cameroon, a rural community of over 3,000 residents who currently rely on a shallow, unsanitary well for their daily water needs. In partnership with local leaders and guided by community input, we are designing and implementing a deep‑well water supply and full distribution system that will deliver clean, accessible water to homes, schools, and public spaces. Launched in February 2025 and projected for completion in 2029, this multi‑year effort will not only improve public health and reduce the burden of water collection, but also strengthen the community’s resilience for generations to come.
Beyond our international projects, EWB‑UTSA members lead outreach, fundraising, and leadership development efforts that prepare us to be globally responsible engineers and changemakers. Every project is an opportunity to learn, lead, and leave a legacy.
Our mission: Partner with communities and develop leaders to build a better world.
Our vision: A world where every leader is equipped to build, and every community is built to thrive.
Join us in turning engineering knowledge into lasting impact. Whether you’re a student, professional, or community partner, there’s a place for you in our mission to engineer a better future.
